Barnsley CCG shortlisted for a national healthcare award
18 April 2018

Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been shortlisted for a Best of Clinical Pharmacy Award at the Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2018.

The national award recognises the success of the work that pharmacists do in GP surgeries that has made a significant contribution to help deliver better healthcare services to patients across Barnsley.

Barnsley CCG has invested in pharmacists to work in GP practices across the borough to provide specialist medication advice and services to patients. The pharmacists work alongside GPs and nurses to monitor, assess and support patients to get the best out of their medications.

Over the past twelve months the programme has successfully reduced the workload for GPs, which means there is more time for them to see patients.

Collectively, they have helped to free up over 11,000 GP appointments, taken 2,322 requests for medication, which has saved approximately 290 hours and carried out 4,119 medication reviews saving approximately 687 hours.

In addition to celebrating excellence, the awards provide an opportunity to highlight and spread best practice.

Chris Lawson, head of the medicines team Barnsley CCG said: “We’re extremely proud to know that the work we are doing in Barnsley is being recognised nationally. The successful addition of pharmacists to GP surgeries, has not only freed-up GP time, but has also made a real difference helping people feel in control and get the most out of their medication.”

The Best of Clinical Pharmacy Award winners will be announced Friday 27 April 2018.
