Free Online Resource Offers Help for People with Long Term Conditions

A free online resource which offers advice on long-term conditions and how to manage them more effectively has been launched across the borough.

The Sound Doctor, a website launched by Barnsley Libraries and NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, provides practical advice from healthcare professionals and other patients through a series of short films.

The site aims to support people to manage and understand their condition better so that they can cope more effectively – helping to improve their quality of life. The free resource can be accessed through any public access computer in Barnsley library.

Conditions covered on the site include:

  • Diabetes
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Dementia
  • Weight Loss Surgery
  • Back pain

Dr Mehrban Ghani, local GP and Medical Director of NHS Barnsley CCG said: “The Sound Doctor is a fantastic resource for helping patients to manage long term conditions. There is a real wealth of honest advice available, highlighting the best treatment and management options. It’s a great resource for empowering patients to self-manage their conditions.”

To access The Sound Doctor, visit www.barnsley.gov.uk/libraries from any library computer. Click through to the e-books and resources section to find The Sound Doctor link, people will need a password to login.
