NHS Barnsley CCG shortlisted for a top national healthcare award
11 September 2017

The CCG, which is responsible for planning and buying hospital, community health and GP services in Barnsley, is up for CCG of the Year 2017 at the national Health Service Journal (HSJ) awards.

NHS Barnsley CCG is among ten organisations from across the country to be shortlisted for the accolade. There are more than 200 CCGs in England.

Lesley Smith, Chief Officer at NHS Barnsley CCG, said: “We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for this award. To have Barnsley recognised as one of the top areas in the country is fantastic. To get shortlisted means being able to show you are having a real impact on people’s health and that for us is what really matters.

Many more people are now being offered excellent nursing care in their own home, when a few years ago they might have been referred into hospital, when really there were better ways of supporting them.  This year we’ve seen some huge improvements in the range and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for young people and their families and I know there’s much more to come. We’ve also seen the IHEART Barnsley GP service go from strength to strength, adding extra GP appointments into Barnsley.”

The shortlisted organisations will now face a judging panel before the winners are announced on 22 November 2017.

Also representing Barnsley, in different categories, is Barnsley Healthcare Federation for the IHEART Barnsley service and Barnsley Hospital for their work on carbon reduction.
