NHS England launches further dedicated mental health services for veterans

NHS England launches further dedicated mental health services for veterans
10 April 2018

NHS England has launched the NHS Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service, further expanding the range of dedicated care and treatment for those who have served their country.

Available across England, the new local community based service is for ex-forces personnel who have military attributable complex mental health problems that have not improved following previous treatment.

Informed by the views of veterans and their families, the service builds on the success of the NHS Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service, which acts as the single access point to this new service.  Referrals can be made by a GP, military charity or individuals can self-refer.

The NHS Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service provides intensive care and treatment that may include (but is not limited to) support for substance misuse, physical health, employment, accommodation, relationships and finances, as well as occupational and trauma focused therapies.  Families and carers can find it hard to cope when their loved ones aren’t well, so where appropriate, help may be provided to them too.
