Information we hold

How we use your information

NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG’s) primary function is to purchase health services that meet the needs of the population of Barnsley.  The information it holds for these purposes does not contain names, addresses or other data that would identify you personally.  This data is used to help plan and manage services and for producing statistical information to monitor performance. 

The Clinical Commissioning Group also holds a small amount of personal information for the purposes of delivering care, managing the organisation and discharging its duties.

Patient information

Information about patients is used for the purposes of providing direct care, investigating complaints and concerns and other purposes consistent with its obligations such as safeguarding.  This information will be used with consent or where there is a legal basis for doing so.

Human resources information

Information is held for recruitment and selection purposes and for management purposes associated with individual staff employment.

Other personal infomation

Information may be used in fulfilling the CCG’s duties, such as administering requests to access information, for example, under the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts, investigating where something has gone wrong, for example, holding registers of adverse incidents such as the death of a child (a serious case review), managing legal claims etc.

Information governance

The CCG’s use of information is governed by law and guidance.  The CCG takes its responsibilities to handle information in a secure and confidential manner to quality and ethical standards very seriously and has put in place a number of policies and procedures to ensure the organisation and its staff comply with its obligations.
