Modern Slavery

Human Trafficking Statement

(In accordance with Section 54, Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015)

NHS Barnsley CCG has a zero tolerance approach to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities and to ensuring that it’s commissioned services (and where applicable, supply chains) are free from slavery and human trafficking. The CCG acknowledges the provisions set out in the Modern Slavery Act (2015) and will ensure an organisation which is open and works in transparency and effectively utilises its own due diligence that there is no evidence of acts of modern slavery or human trafficking within the organisation.

Our commitment to prevent slavery and human trafficking

NHS Barnsley CCG aims to address this risk through:

  • Being committed to ensuring that there is no Modern Slavery or Human Trafficking within our commissioned services/ supply chains or in any part of our business.
  • Adhering to the National NHS Employment Checks/Standards. This includes employees UK address, right to work in the UK and suitable references.
  • Have in place systems to encourage the reporting of concerns and the protection of whistle blowers. We continue to build long standing relationships with our Providers and make clear our expectations of business behaviour. With regards to local, national or international supply chains; we expect these entities to have suitable anti-slavery and human trafficking policies and processes in place.
  • Inclusion of Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking included within the CCG Safeguarding Policy
  • Provision of a multi-agency approach to raising awareness of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking coordinated by both the BSAB and BSCB.
  • Inclusion of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking within CCG delivered Safeguarding training.

Our arrangements

The CCG aims to be as effective as possible in ensuring that Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking do not take place in any part of our business by:

  • Maintaining strong liaison with Safeguarding Leads within Provider services and working with partners across Barnsley to identify safeguarding referrals pertaining to modern slavery and the outcomes of investigations undertaken.
  • Continuing NHS employment checks and payroll systems (i.e. people bought into the country illegally will not have a National Insurance number)
  • Ensuring communication with our commissioned providers in the supply chain and being aware of their understanding of, and compliance with, our expectations in relation to the NHS terms and conditions including slavery and other ethical considerations.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31 March 2020.
