People living in Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield are being asked for their views on the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).
The plan starts by saying there have been some big improvements in health and social care over the last 15 years. For example, people with cancer and heart conditions are experiencing better care and living longer.
However, people’s needs have changed, new treatments are emerging, the quality of care is variable and preventable illness is widespread. There will also be an estimated funding gap of £571 million across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw if services continue to work in the way they are doing now.
Over the last 12 months, all health and care organisations across the region have worked together to develop a vision and a set of priorities to address these challenges and improve the health and wellbeing of the combined population.
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw plan is made up of five local plans – ours is the Barnsley plan. Each local plan has been developed by local doctors, hospital chief executives, clinical commissioners, council officers and patient and voluntary sector groups. You can read a copy of our 'Barnsley Plan' here.
The main ambition of the STP is to give everyone in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw a great start in life, with support to stay healthy and live longer. There are ten draft priorities to help achieve this:
The conversation with the public will run until the end of March and with staff until mid-April. You can find out more about the ambitions, what local leaders say by visiting the Working Together website.
