We arranged a workshop to introduce and discuss the work that we are carrying out to take forwards our commissioning plans within Barnsley for over the next year and beyond.
This took place during the morning of Friday 12 February and was held at The Core in Barnsley. It was aimed at anyone who wanted to gain a wider knowledge and understanding of our commissioning plans and to take part in workshop discussions to share their views and experiences to help us to shape these.
Over fifty participants joined us for this workshop and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their valuable input, energy, and enthusiasm. We received some really constructive feedback on the day to take forwards.
We have collated all of the comments and feedback that we received into a summary report and this was shared with all participants and lead commissioners in March. A copy is available to download here.
It is our intention to run a series of these type of events throughout the forthcoming year and all of the information shared will be captured and fed back to help shape plans for Barnsley.
We are developing our new commissioning plan for 2014 to 2016. This plan will show what we would like health services in Barnsley to look like over the next couple of years and what we are going to do to make that happen. It shows what we aim to change, build on or improve.
We are developing this plan with the help of patients, the public, community and voluntary groups, our members; that is GPs and nurses across the borough, with Barnsley Council and with the rest of the health service including neighbouring clinical commissioning groups and NHS England.
The planning process involves looking at the current health issues and needs in Barnsley, alongside a range of views from the people mentioned above, to make sure that our priorities remain the key areas for us to focus on over the next two years.
We are committed to ensuring that all our decisions are made as a result of listening to people who live and receive healthcare in Barnsley. Therefore, we are asking for your feedback on our commissioning priorities and would appreciate your comments, to ensure that we’ve got it right. We've included some background information for you below together with a number of ways that you can get involved.
The CCG is responsible for commissioning, or buying, health and care services including: hospital care; rehabilitation care; urgent and emergency care, most community health services, mental health; and learning disability services. We currently have seven priorities, these are:
We have looked at the independent data from Barnsley's Joint Strategic Needs Assessment which shows us the current health issues. This information suggests that these issues are broadly the same as they were when we developed our priorities for last year.
We proposed to continue to concentrate on the same seven priorities and asked people to feedback on the following:
All ideas, suggestions or comments were considered and included in the recommendation to our Governing Body in March 2014.
