Talking therapies

talking therapies

We're making some changes

One in four people will experience a common mental health condition such as stress, depression or anxiety at some point of their lives but help is available for people whose daily lives are affected.

Your GP may refer you to the local talking therapies service, or you can refer yourself.

We have got big plans for talking therapies services across Barnsley. We want more people to have access to the service and to be seen sooner.

We also want people to feel that the type of talking therapies offered to them, suits their needs. This will mean more people feel able to continue with all of the sessions available to them and they feel the full benefit of the support.

Your views matter

That’s why we need to your views to help shape talking therapies services for adults across the borough so that:

  • the waiting time for your therapy is shorter
  • you are offered support between your referral and the time you start using the service
  • you're assessed by a trained professional so that the most appropriate therapies are offered to you, at a time and place that works for you.

What will happen to the feedback?

The current contract for talking therapies, or IAPT as it’s often called (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies), is commissioned by NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group. It is our role to plan for and buy local services, which meet the needs of local people.

We want to hear from you, whether you have used the service or not. We want to know what matters to you if, or when, using these talking therapy services.

We will use all the feedback to influence the new contract for Barnsley talking therapy services during 2018. Your views will be anonymous and will help build a picture of what talking therapies need to offer local people.

The closing date for feedback was March 25th 2018. We had over 120 responses, so thank you to everyone who sent in comments.

We will be publishing a report of the findings which will show what we did as a result of that feedback. If you would like a copy of that report please email barnccg.comms@nhs.net with the subject 'Talking Therapies' report.
