Barnsley CCG Secures Good Rating

Barnsley CCG Secures Good Rating
21 July 2017

NHS England has published ratings today for 2016/17 highlighting where Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are performing well.

Barnsley CCG has secured a 'Good' overall rating in this annual assessment.

These ratings provide a valuable resource to help track improvement at CCG level and support them to understand where they need to target their efforts to improve services locally.

The overall rating is based on indicators looking at:

  • the leadership capability of a CCG

  • financial management and whether it is securing good value for patients and the public

  • its performance in key NHS constitutional standards, and outcomes, including in important clinical areas

  • how it is contributing towards improving the health and wellbeing of its population.

Dr Nick Balac, chair of Barnsley CCG said:

“We are delighted to maintain our ‘good’ rating by NHS England. This is a testament to our commitment to improving the health services and health outcomes for everyone across the borough and the hard work of all staff to achieve this. This national endorsement demonstrates the confidence that people can continue to have in our commissioning of local health services."

CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework – clinical priority areas

Assessments are also being published by NHS England today for 2016/17 for the Next Steps key priority areas of cancer, mental health, and dementia.

The clinical priority area ratings are based on specific indicators or metrics for each area:

  • Cancer: The rating for cancer is based on four indicators; early diagnosis, one year survival, 62 day waits after referral, and overall patient experience.

  • Mental health: Mental health focuses on five indicators. These include two national standards – the number of people moving to recovery following treatment from Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services, and those receiving treatment within two weeks of referral when experiencing a first episode psychosis. It also includes three ‘transformation indicators’ as a measure of readiness to make improvement and of whether CCGs are likely to be able to deliver the transformation needed in mental health services over the coming years – these focus on children and young people, crisis and liaison, and out of area placements.

  • Dementia: The rating for dementia considers two indicators: dementia diagnosis rates and care plan reviews for people with dementia.

Information on other areas will be published later on the year once the relevant 2016/17 data sets are available.
