CCG rated outstanding for second year

CCG rated outstanding for second year
11 July 2019

NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for planning and buying healthcare services for around 240,000 people across Barnsley, is rated as outstanding for a second consecutive year and is recognised for its continued high standards and performance.

Barnsley CCG is one of only 24 in the country to receive an assessment of outstanding this year.

Under NHS England’s improvement and assessment framework, all clinical commissioning groups are assessed on how effectively they work with others to improve quality and outcomes for patients.

The annual assessment is a judgement, reached by taking into account the CCG’s performance in each of the areas over the full year and balanced against the financial management and assessment of the leadership of the CCG.

The indicators are: better health; better care; sustainability; and leadership. The rating takes into account things like the percentage of people treated, admitted or discharged from A&E within four hours and the percentage of people who receive treatment for cancer with 62 days of being referred by their GP.

Lesley Smith, accountable officer for Barnsley CCG said:

“We are delighted to achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating for the second year running. Much of what we are assessed on happens in the services we commission. This year in particular, we are seeing the benefits of how we have worked with local teams from different parts of the NHS, council and community sector as well as residents, designing and delivering services together. The more seamless your experience of healthcare, the better it is.”
