More GP appointments for Barnsley across Christmas and New Year

More GP appointments will be available for Barnsley patients over Christmas and New Year with i-HEART Barnsley increasing their services during and in between the bank holidays. Some pharmacies will also be open on these days.

Health and care organisations are working together across Barnsley to ensure that people can get access to the right services, at the right time, during this busy  winter period.

More bookable GP appointments and longer opening hours will be provided by the i-HEART team over the next couple of weeks, thanks to funding from NHS England, to help support Barnsley health services at this busy time of year.

The extended GP service is designed to provide patients with greater access to non-emergency medical appointments, which can be pre-booked by calling the i-HEART service. Same day appointments are also available.

Advice is provided through telephone support and via face-to-face GP appointments.

Dr Ajay Mistry, chair of Barnsley Healthcare Federation who run the i-HEART service said:

“Christmas and New Year are some of the busiest times of year for Barnsley’s healthcare services and i-HEART’s extended opening hours aim to give patients greater access to medical care, without the need to visit Barnsley Hospital’s A&E department. People often wait until the holidays are over and then try and contact their GP. That doesn’t need to be the case this year. GP and pharmacy services are open so please use them if you need to.

“On normal working days we would like to remind patients that they should always contact their own GP in the first instance, however, in cases where they are unable to provide as same day appointment, or need to receive treatment at times when their own surgery is closed, i-HEART is available to help.”

Lloyds Pharmacy in Barnsley travel interchange will be open for two hours on Christmas day from 10:00 - 12:00.

GP appointments are available on the days below with i-HEART Barnsley. On the following days please call 01226 242419 between 9:00 to 13:00 to book an appointment with i-HEART Barnsley. At all other times, call NHS 111.
