Outstanding rating for Barnsley CCG commissioners

Outstanding rating for Barnsley CCG commissioners
25 November 2020

NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for planning and buying healthcare services for people across Barnsley, is rated as outstanding for a third year.

NHS England and Improvement assess all clinical commissioning groups across the country on how effectively they work with others to improve quality and outcomes for local people.

The rating takes into account things like the percentage of people treated, admitted or discharged from A&E within four hours, the percentage of people who receive timely treatment for cancer after being referred by their GP and the leadership and financial management of the CCG.

Chris Edwards, accountable officer for NHS Barnsley CCG said: “This has been such a tough 10 months and it has been fantastic to see how everyone has risen to the challenges. Getting an outstanding rating for 2019/20 is a fantastic achievement and says as much about the quality and commitment of our partners and the local services we commission.

“It has given us a strong foundation during the pandemic. Our dedicated staff and member GP practices have really got Barnsley people at the heart of what they do and I’m proud that has been recognised.”

Chris Millington, lay member for patient and public involvement, Barnsley CCG said: “I’d like to thank everyone who gave their expertise and their time to help us plan and develop services last year. We heard from parents and young people for example about what mental health and wellbeing support they wanted and put new services in place using that feedback. Every bit of feedback helps us commission the sorts of high quality services which match people’s needs.”

Adrian England, chair of Healthwatch Barnsley said: “Once again Barnsley’s clinical commissioning group has been judged outstanding. Healthwatch Barnsley, the independent local champion for people who use health and social care services, are pleased to congratulate the CCG on this significant achievement.  This decision recognises the CCG’s continued support of the development of the integrated health and care system and the commissioning and planning of the appropriate health and care services, based on the needs of the people of Barnsley.”
