Huddersfield and Calderdale hospital services

Right Care, Right Time, Right Place (RCRTRP) is a review of current hospital and community health services in Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield.

This review is led by NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG, who border the Barnsley area CCGs are led by local GPs and it is our role to commission, plan and buy, the majority of hospital and community health services for their local population.  Their proposed changes have been worked on in partnership with NHS Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust (CHFT) who deliver the hospital services in our area.

The consultation came to a close on 24th June 2016, please visit their website for the latest information.

Joint Barnsley response 2016

Barnsley CCG and Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have reviewed the consultation documents and have submitted this joint response:

In response to the Greater Huddersfield CCG and Calderdale CCG proposals 2016:  Public consultation on proposed future arrangements for hospital and community health services.

Based on the information available in the consultation, we anticipate some people will travel to Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust accident and emergency department by ambulance.

At this time, we do expect there will be more journeys made by ambulance to Barnsley but we do not anticipate this number to be significant. We understand however that  further analysis will become available for us to better estimate the number of attendances by ambulance.

We would ask that any further analysis from the commissioning CCGs shows information on patterns for Barnsley and Huddersfield residents, who are most likely to travel ‘across borders’ for their emergency care.

We are unable to determine from the proposals the immediate and ongoing needs of any patients travelling to Barnsley by ambulance based on their acuity.

It is unclear at this stage how many people will choose to attend Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust accident and emergency department as a ‘walk-in’.

Both the Clinical Commissioning Group and Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will continue to work with the neighbouring CCGs, as any further analysis becomes available.

On behalf of both,

Lesley Smith, Chief Officer, Barnsley CCG and Diane Wake, Chief Executive, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
