Notification of Barnsley ophthalmology service procurement

As an organisation, NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has the responsibility to plan and buy local health services on behalf of the people of Barnsley. One of the key services that we are responsible for planning and buying on your behalf is Ophthalmology.

We are committed to ensuring the provision of high quality, dedicated and professional ophthalmology services for all Barnsley patients with eye conditions and currently throughout August and September we are carrying out a process to recruit a provider to carry out this service from February 2017 onwards.

Get involved by joining the procurement panel

As part of the above process we have recruited a patient representative to be part of the overall evaluation and decision making panel. However, in addition we would also like to recruit up to three more people who have direct experience of accessing these type of services to be part of a patient interview panel. The patient panel will interview the shortlisted providers bidding to provide the service prior to them meeting with a second panel consisting of the clinical and managerial leads as part of the overall evaluation and decision making process.

In addition to the above, we would also like to hear from local people regarding their experiences of using the current Ophthalmology service.  Your comments and feedback will be used to help us shape the evaluation questions that will be used to recruit the most suitable provider of Ophthalmology services for the people of Barnsley going forwards.
