12 December 2017

Barnsley CCG has won two national awards for improving patient care by helping people get the best out of their medications.

NHS Barnsley CCG has been recognised in two categories of The National Prescribing Safety Awards 2017. The awards are a measurement of the excellent care that is provided to patients in GP practices across the country and reflects the high quality of care delivered.

The CCG won awards for the way it supports people on high-risk medication as well people who take medication for all types of diabetes.

Chris Lawson, head of the medicines team Barnsley, CCG said: “We really proud to have won these two awards. Getting medication right plays such a big part in people’s lives. It’s important that we have high quality and safe services across the whole of the borough. These awards highlight how patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do.”

Over the past 18 months Barnsley CCG has invested in pharmacists to work in GP practices to provide specialist medication advice and services to patients. The pharmacists work alongside GPs and nurses to monitor, assess and support patients to get the best out of their medications.
