Second Dose Milestone as One Third of Adults in Barnsley Receive Both Jabs

Second Dose Milestone as One Third of Adults in Barnsley Receive Both Jabs
11 May 2021

The NHS in Barnsley has confirmed that one third of adults across the borough have now had both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Latest data shows that 71,073 Barnsley adults had received their first and second dose of the jab with more than two thirds of adults having already had their first jab.

In total, local NHS staff have delivered around 200,000 vaccines in total and second doses remain a priority. It is vital everyone attends their second jab to ensure they receive the maximum protection from coronavirus.

The NHS is vaccinating in line with guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation as supply allows. Those eligible will be able to book once they are invited to do so.

Andrea Parkin, lead nurse in charge of the Barnsley NHS GP vaccination service said:

“Yet another incredible NHS milestone has been reached as one in three adults in Barnsley have now had both doses of the covid vaccine - meaning that they have maximum protection from the virus.

“Reaching this milestone is no accident – it is down to months of hard work from GP practices coming together into one network to make this happen. We must also recognise all the work of other partners as everyone who has played a role in this is helping to protect millions of people from serious illness and saving lives.

“We can all be rightly proud of what we have achieved as we get more of the population fully vaccinated over the coming weeks and months. So when you are invited for your vaccine, please do book in – it is simple, effective and will protect you and your loved ones.”
