Stay well this extended Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend

Bank Holiday repeat prescriptions
Stay well this extended Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend
20 May 2022

NHS Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is encouraging people not to leave it until the last minute to order and collect repeat prescriptions before the extended Platinum Jubilee bank holiday break, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

Most GP practices and pharmacies will be running reduced opening hours throughout the bank holiday, so people should take stock to see if they have enough medications to last over the upcoming four-day bank holiday weekend.

Dr Madhavi Guntamukkala, Medical Director at NHS Barnsley CCG said “We want to ensure everyone with long-term health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease, enjoys the extended break and doesn’t run out of their essential medicines. However, should you need us, there will be a small number of pharmacists available throughout the bank holiday and GP appointments will be available with iHEART Barnsley.”

“It only takes a few minutes to collect some over-the-counter remedies for seasonal ailments. If you do take regular medications, please ensure you have enough to cover the bank holiday period. Make looking after your health part of your bank holiday preparations and don’t leave it until the last minute.”

GP appointments are available every day over the bank holiday in Barnsley via the iHEART Barnsley service. Phone lines are open from 8:00am - 9:30am for same day appointments between 10:00am - 5:00pm by calling 01226 242419. Outside of these hours, please call 111 or visit NHS 111 online at 111.nhs.uk.

NHS 111 can direct you where to get help for your symptoms, if you're not sure what to do, how to find general health information and advice, where to get an emergency supply of your prescribed medicine and how to get a repeat prescription.

Dr Guntamukkala added: “Bank Holiday periods can be a very busy time for local health services, so picking up a repeat prescription in advance and knowing which services are available could help to keep staff free to deal with life-threatening emergencies. I would urge everyone to plan ahead of time and enjoy your break.”
